Thorpeness Golf Club’s Festival of Golf

Summer may have taken its time to show up, but it came just in time for Thorpeness Golf Club’s Festival of Golf events last month!

It kicked off with the Captain Pro Charity Challenge on Sunday 4th August. A chance for the members to gain bragging rights for 12 months, plus raise some money for charity. The format best two of four, and the winning score by some comfort was Brian Martin, Robin Leggate, Philip Larking & Ming Jiang with 94 points. The Captains and Pros didn’t disgrace themselves either, finishing in 3rd place. A great day had by all, plus money raised for the club and captains’ charities.

Tuesday 6th August was the Senior Team Challenge, teams of three which included eight teams from clubs around Suffolk. The team from Woodbridge, Godric Baron, David Hughes and Graeme Murray won the visitor prizes, on count back to two other teams on the same score of 78 points. The members prizes were taken by Jon Fison, Ian Laird and Chris Tilbrook on 87 points.

The James Braid Centenary Cup took place on Friday 16th August. 26 teams in total took part, 21 of which were visiting teams from fellow James Braid golf courses. Sheringham dominated the top of the leaderboard, taking 1st and 2nd place! Janice Fulford and Sue Heeles were rather unfortunate, losing to Ian Kidger and John Little on countback. Both teams scoring and impressive 44 points for four-ball better ball.

The Centenary Cup followed the next day, with 24 member’s teams in attendance for another four-ball better ball competition. The winners, Robin Leggate & John Ashton, not only conquered the field, but also exceeded the winning score from the previous day, with an incredible 46 points.

To top off the festivities, on Sunday 18th Thorpeness took the title for the Tolly Cobbold Cup. An impressive 15 point win over Fynn Valley at Rookery Park.
